Wise Ways to Save Water

CONSERVE WATER EVERY DAY

Even though we have all enjoyed the recent rains, the past few years of drought has shown us how quickly our dams can get down to critical levels if we are not careful with water usage.

Here are our simple suggestions to save water in key parts of the home:

In the Kitchen

  • Use one-pot recipes when cooking meals. Often, using more than one pot is unnecessary when cooking.
  • Wait until your dishwasher is full before washing.
  • If you wash your dishes by hand, wash them in one sink and rinse them in another filled with clean water.
  • Pre-soak your pans and cutlery, so you don’t have to scrape them clean under running water.

In the Bathroom

  • Shower instead of bathing to reduce your usage.
  • Replace your shower head with a water-efficient one.
  • Turn off the tap while you are shaving or brushing your teeth.

In the Laundry

  • Wait until you have a full load before doing laundry.
  • Wash your dark clothes in cold water to save both water and energy.
  • Just be sure to check the care labels.

In the Garden

  • Water your garden around sunset and sunrise to help minimise evaporation.
  • Be observant of the water restrictions in your area.
  • Direct and adjust sprinklers to only water your lawn and not the driveway.
  • Adjust your lawn mower blades to a higher setting. Longer grass creates shade, so the soil holds moisture better.
  • Aerate your lawn by punching holes to help water reach the roots.
  • Capture or redirect rainwater from your roof gutters towards your garden.
